VetTrust Wintercheck: Staying fit during the cold season

When it gets cold, wet, and windy outside, it can be particularly challenging for our dogs and cats. To help your pet get through the winter in good health, we are offering the VetTrust winter check-up in addition to every regular appointment booked at our small animal practices from December to the end of February.

What does the winter check-up for dogs involve?

Our veterinarians carefully examine your dog for common signs that may become more noticeable during winter due to cold temperatures and dry indoor heating:
  • Dry skin and coat problems
  • Respiratory issues such as coughing or colds
  • Joint pain or stiffness (e.g. arthritis & osteoarthritis)
  • Eye irritation caused by cold drafts
Additionally, we check:
  • Paw pads for cracks or irritation
  • Nail length (we trim them free of charge if needed)

What does the winter check-up for cats involve?

Cats are also sensitive to cold temperatures and dry indoor heating. During the winter check, we pay special attention to:
  • Respiratory issues (runny nose, coughing)
  • Weight control: less activity often means more calories
  • Eye irritation caused by cold drafts
  • Nail length (we trim them free of charge if needed)
  • Joint pain or muscle stiffness (e.g. arthritis & osteoarthritis)

Individual consultation included

Every animal reacts differently to the cold season. That’s why, during the Winter Check, we take time for an individual “Fit for Winter” consultation tailored to your pet’s needs. Here we provide recommendations on paw care, suitable heat sources in winter and ways to strengthen the immune system. This helps your pet stay fit, active and comfortable throughout the winter.
All VetTrust small animal practices participate in the VetTrust Winter Check. Excluded from this offer are the Tierklinik Basel, Tierklinik Zürich Ost and Clinica Alpina.
Schedule your visit at a VetTrust small animal practice and benefit from the VetTrust Winter Check until the end of February 2026. Simply mention #VetTrustWintercheck when making your appointment.
